KWATERY GŁóWNEJ Housing Complex

Jems Architects, Warsaw, Poland 2007
Kwatery Głównej St., Warsaw   Area: 46,500sqm  Client: SIM Ursynow

In designing the urban layout of the complex, one of the main assumptions was to provide massing that makes reference to the size of the existing quarters, the scale of their evelopment, and the existing street network. An internal street which is an extension of Kwatery Głównej Street, is designed as a pedestrian and service way. The entrance to the internal courtyard, a common space between the blocks, is open, unfenced. The flat, terraced stairs of the entrance yard make a straightforward invitation to enter the central walkway from which you can take different paths to reach the individual courtyards, use the service units and the playground situated there, or walk through to Makowska Street at the back of the complex.
